Drakensberg Mountain Retreat is a stunning destination in the northern Drakensberg only 20km beyond Sterkfontein Dam. Situated high on a ridge overlooking the Drakensberg and the Maluti Mountains many have said that the views are unsurpassed.

It offers much more than comfortable, affordable country style accommodation. Its spectacular views, vast spaces, wild winds and superb walks make it the perfect place to experience the beauty and magnificence of the Drakensberg. Its deep silences, unfamiliar at first, will soon work its magic resuscitating body and mind. This is a place to relax, unwind, take stock - a place to rejuvenate - a place to regain peace.

This is a cosy haven for those who like old fashioned holidays, with peace and quiet, excellent home-style cooking, reading near the fireplace, playing board games and pleasant company; also a wonderful base to experience the mighty Drakensberg. An ideal retreat for individuals, families or groups either self catered or fully catered.

Accommodation

The Drakensberg Mountain retreat has two facilities, Vergezient Lodge and the Zonderntywfel Barnhouse.

The Lodge
The Lodge, which has 10 rooms, is usually booked by individuals and families and offers a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. The rates here vary per room and can be found on the rates page. We offer a fully stocked bar.

Vergezient Lodge with its numerous lounges and fireplaces is comfortably furnished and blends rustic charm with old fashioned elegance. The Lodge has tastefully decorated en-suite bedrooms and a number of bedrooms have their own lounges; some with fireplaces.

Breakfast is served from 7h30 to 09h00. Enjoy fresh fruit, yogurt and cereal and then order your full English breakfast from the helpful staff. Dinner is served at 19h00 is a 3 course, set meal served by candle light. We do cater for any dietary requirements. We have received endless compliments on our home style cooking served by the fire place in the dining room.

The Barnhouse
The Barnhouse offers exclusive use accommodation for group bookings. It has five en-suite bedrooms, sleeping 12 people and five dormitory-type rooms that can accommodate up to 14 people. This allows a group of up to 26 people to be accommodated here. The dormitory rooms use two separate ablutions with showers, toilets and basins. If the group is larger than 26, then both the Barnhouse and the Lodge may be used.

Self catering for the Barnhouse is only suitable for groups as there is only one kitchen. DB&B and B&B can be booked by arrangement.

Wedding and Conferences

Take a break from the office! Break away from the busy city and relax in the calming environment of the Drakensberg Mountain Retreat. This is an ideal venue for conferencing and company breakaways. With an obliging staff ready to serve you, you will be able to attend to the more important matters of business.

Drakensberg Mountain Retreat offers the perfect conference facilities for any group event. We offer a function room, breakaway areas and excellent cuisine, accommodation for 42 people sharing and 15 singles and breathtaking scenery. The function room is attached to the Barnhouse and is fairly large, measuring 120 square meters. It is a lovely airy room with beautiful views of the Drakensberg Mountains.
