Clanwilliam Accommodation / De Pakhuys Clanwilliam Accommodation / Self Catering Cottages in Clanwilliam

Nestled in the picturesque Agter-Pakhuis Valley, 26 km from Clanwilliam on route to the historic Wuperthal village, you will find De Pakhuys Guest Farm.

The farm and cottages belongs to the Kruger Family from Cape Town, who on a visit to the area in 2003 couldn't resist having a piece of this paradise to themselves. They subsequently bought a piece of land in this magnificent valley and decided to renovate one of the cottages on the farm and share the splendour of the Cederberg with visitors.

The cottages and guests are looked after and cared for by our partners and friends, Mark & Marinda Botha, who farms on the land bordering us. Mark and Marinda both grew up in this beautiful valley and can share some interesting facts about the history of the Agter Pakhuis area with our guests.

Accommodation

De Pakhuys offers a choice of two self-catering cottages. Choose between De Pakhuys Chalet that sleeps 6 people or romantic Waboomhuys, sleeping two (plus one child).

De Pakhuys Chalet
De Pakhuys Chalet is named after the original farm, Pakhuis, established in the late 1700's by Dutch settlers moving north from the Cape Town area.

The cottage has two bedrooms, one and half bathrooms and has been extensively renovated and luxuriously furnished to accomodate 6 guests in comfort. The air-conditioned unit will ensure utmost comfort during the hot summer months and the fireplace makes for cosy winter evenings. The chalet offers all modern comforts including Satellite Television, land line telephone, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, full bathroom with shower and bath tub.

The chalet offers beautiful views of the surrounding farmland and towering Cederberg mountain range in all directions. Guests are welcome to enjoy the swimming pool on a hot summer's day, have a braai outside, or simply relax and admire the view. Braai packs are available on request and wood is provided free of charge.

Waboomhuys Cottage
Waboomhuys is a romantic cottage for two, comfortably appointed and overlooking the sparkling swimming pool. It offers a generous living area with jetmaster fireplace, bathroom with shower and well equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave, two-plate stove and oven, cutlery, crockery and all utensils needed for a comfortable stay.

Towels, bed linen and fire wood are provided free of charge. Enjoy the outside braai facilties (braai packs are available on request) and relax next to the inviting swimming pool.

Attractions & Activities

The farm offers a beautiful scenic drive to the top section of the farm accessible only with a 4x4 vehicle. The top section of the farm consists of 60 ha of rooibos tea lands and 260 ha of unspoilt fynbos gorges and wild flowers during season. Hundred years old Wild Olive trees, or commonly know as olienhout trees, can be found wedged between the rocks. An old hollow rock cave can be used for a picnic or for those that really wants to "rough it", as an overnight camping spot.

• Quad Bikes now available to guests
• Wonderful new swimming pool
• Rock climbing
• Bouldering

Nature Walks

Guests are welcome to stroll around the farm but two "formal" hiking trails may be followed:

Die Plaat Hiking Trail:
This route takes you down the 4x4 track and up to Die Plaat area of the farm. The walk takes approximately two hours but can be varied for those who feel like a shorter walk. During the flower season the walk takes you through endless veldflower fields. The walk offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountain range and the valley below.

The Waterfall Trail:
This trail takes you for an easy walk along the banks of the Brandewyn (Brandy!) River down to where the river plummets 500m into the Karoo basin, resulting in lovely waterfalls, rapids and astounding rock formations. For the fortunate bird watcher you might spot the evasive "Witkruis Arend" raptor nesting high against the cliffs.
