In the past mixed farming was practised. Boy's father cultivated tobacco for the Spies Tobacco Factory. They also grew their own vegetables, some apricot trees and had a dairy farm. But times have changed since; the tobacco factory closed down and the Co-op for fruit and milk does not exist anymore. The 1900's were golden years for ostrich farming. Between 400-800 birds were raised on the farm; varying from one day to 4 months old, but this also presented its own risks. At the moment the farm is fenced in for Game Farming.
