Located en route to the Cango Caves, De Oude Meul Country Lodge lies nestled at the foothills of the majestic Swartberg Mountains, in Oudtshoorn, Garden Route. The Lodge is situated in the beautiful Schoemanspoort, halfway between Oudtshoorn and the world famous Cango Caves on the R328. To overnight on this beautiful farm is an unforgettable experience. The lodge is surrounded by mountains, which together with the exotic plants of the Klein Karoo create a quiet serene atmosphere.

The Farm

In the past mixed farming was practised. Boy's father cultivated tobacco for the Spies Tobacco Factory. They also grew their own vegetables, some apricot trees and had a dairy farm. But times have changed since; the tobacco factory closed down and the Co-op for fruit and milk does not exist anymore.

The 1900's were golden years for ostrich farming. Between 400-800 birds were raised on the farm; varying from one day to 4 months old, but this also presented its own risks. At the moment the farm is fenced in for Game Farming. The first game has recently arrived on the farm and you are able to view wildlife from the comfort of your own room.
