ClanwilliamFounded in 1732, the picturesque Cape Dutch homestead of Clanwilliam is one of the ten oldest towns in the country. Tucked away at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains and perched on one of the country's favorite dams, its rich settler history offers a central location for a variety of attractions from flowers viewing to bushman art and range of water sports. In keeping with the rich history of the area, Clanwilliam Lodge itself is a transformed girls hostel, originally built by the Provincial Administration in 1916. Much of the furnishings in the lodge are made by wood from original building. Clanwilliam is also famous for growing and cultivating Rooibos Tea and for its original leather "Veldskoene" factory. Clanwilliam is 212km from Cape Town and a two hour driver by car. Take the N7 off the N1 from Cape Town; pass the towns of Malmesbury, Moorreesburg, Piketberg and finally Citrusdal before you cross over the Olifant's River to take the Clanwilliam turnoff.
