There has to be room in life for mystery, reflection and adventure. We crave the occasional return to essentials, if only to remind ourselves what the essentials really are. Escape, getting away from it all is the very neccessary flip side of modern existence.LocationKleinbaai / Gansbaai is a hop-skip away from Hermanus (yes, we too have the whales - they do not know that the tourists are waiting for them in Hermanus) but in every other respect it's light years away and thus is exactly how we like it; simple - no shopping centre or nightclub in sight - with no-one to impress and nowhere to be "seen". The holiday is about beaches, fishing, cycling, wind surfing, hiking or golfing. Kleinbaai / Gansbaai is about more fish, less people. But for those that need their fix, it is close enough for a dash into Hermanus for expresso and ciabatta. Kleinbaai / Gansbaai is twenty minutes from Hermanus and two hours from Cape Town. A beautiful drive through the wild beauty of the landscape that is the Cape, with breathtaking mountains straddling the miraculous coastline full of lagoons, white beaches and mysterious caves. Passing the many sleepy villages after Hermanus, Kleinbaai / Gansbaai is where most of the shark watchers come, as Dryer island is just off the coast, and has a spectacular Great White population because of the seals. Heaven for some is getting up at dawn and chasing Great Whites; for others it is blissfully chasing down that perfect Chardonnay watching that perfect sunset or contemplating the world while long-rod fishing off the rocks a stones throw away from your bedroom. We offer options for all tastes. Xtreme adventure, pleasure and hedonism. We don't cater for crowds; escaping en masse is contradictory to our beach house mantra. AccommodationThere are eight bedrooms which open on to a wrap around balcony with unimpeded views of crystal clear turquoise water and secluded beaches. The surrounds are full of the Cape's magical fynbos. The look is white spaciousness, stylish but not overpowering. The atmosphere is relaxed indulgence. On close inspection the special beach house luxuries pop up: Damask linen, the odd quirky African piece, groovy lamps, scented candles, hot outdoor showers, gourmet picnics. This is an eccentric interpretation of the back to nature theme, complete with chandeliers, washed delicate shapes of furniture, driftwood balustrading, sea pebble floors in the showers. Building materials are off the land. Mother Nature is the star here. DiningGourmet breakfasts are served on the terrace overlooking the prettiest bay where the working harbour is busy with abalone fishermen bringing the catch of the day in, or intrepid shark cage divers are embarking on their day's adventure or whales frolicking in season. Dinners are relaxed affairs with catches being barbecued. Whale WatchingCasablanca Beach House is an African experience for people who have no interest in sacrificing creature comforts for the sake of adventure. Even if you have seen Great Whites or Southern Right Whales in National Geographic, nothing holds a candle to the adrenaline rush of experiencing them first hand. This is really a place where nature sets the agenda. We know how to cater to people accustomed to la dolce vita, this is a dreamy retreat where the experience we offer is the unspoiled and unhurried elegance of a me-me-me holiday. CAPE TOWN:In addition to the CasaBlanca Beach House, the experienced owners of CasaBlanca operate an additional property on the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town. If you plan to vist Cape Town itself, the CasaBlanca Guest House in Sea Point / Fresnaye offers spectacular sea and mountain views in an atmosphere of casual indulgence. ACCREDITATIONS
