About Modimolle Birdsong Cottages
Set in the scenic Waterberg Mountains lies the small Bushveld town of Modimolle (previously named Nylstroom). Here, in the heart of the Bushveld on a 32 hectare farm, are Birdsong Cottages, a series of self-catering cottages 14 kilometres outside the town on the R101.
Birdsong is an easy 90 minute drive from Pretoria and 2 ½ hour drive from Johannesburg. As soon as guests turn off the R101, they start to unwind. The farm also features a country pool, two farm dams and surrounding gardens.
Self Catering Accommodation
Fly Catcher is a luxury six-sleeper thatched villa with three upmarket private bedrooms – each with their own en-suite bathroom and private entrance. The villa, located at the upper level, boasts its own outside patio with a scenic view of the farm dams and surrounding bush. The well-equipped kitchen features fridge / freezer, four-plate electric stove, microwave, a range of cutlery and crockery as well as a kettle and toaster. A group of three couples would enjoy staying in this unit that offers every comfort away from home. Guests can also book the rooms separately.
Sunbird sleeps four people in two bedrooms (both have double beds). The spacious shared bathroom has a bath, shower, toilet and basin. An added bonus is a unique shower with a rustic stone wall and large glass door. In the compact kitchenette, guests will find all the usual amenities they need to enjoy to prepare their own meals, such as fridge/freezer, two-plate stove and microwave.
The two Owls Cottages combined is a rustic six-sleeper log cabin with private swimming pool and shared barbeque area. Guests can therefore also book this unit as a two or four sleeper.
About Owls Cottage A:
Unit A is a charming wooden cabin constructed on one level and situated next to an orange orchard. This cosy unit features an appealing outside wooden deck in front with a seating area to the far left and is perfect for two couples. The two bedrooms, each with double beds, lead off from the main living space. There is a shared bathroom with bath only.
About Owls Cottage B:
This delightful ‘three-level’ unit is surrounded by greenery. The lounge area features comfortable couches and wooden chairs, coffee table and a flat screen TV with select DStv channels. Another flight of stairs leads up to the bedroom on the third level, with its private balcony overlooking the trees.
Kingfisher offers standard accommodation in its four bedrooms. To the left are two bedrooms; the main one has a comfortable king-sized bed, while the other has two twin beds. These bedrooms have access to a shared private bathroom with bath, basin and toilet. Opposite are two bedrooms with king-size beds, percale linen and their own private en suite bathrooms with shower, toilet and basin.
The small, but well-equipped kitchenette features a four-plate gas stove with oven, fridge/freezer combination and microwave oven. In addition, it offers other self-catering amenities including a kettle, toaster as well as crockery and cutlery.
The unit sleeps four guests and is suitable for small families or friends. The unit has a private entrance, patio and barbeque area. The unit comprises two bedrooms, a kitchenette, sharing bathroom and cosy living area. The self-catering unit is situated next the Guineafowl unit at the lower level at the foot of the two farm dams.

Birdsong Cottages is located in a bushveld surrounding with various free roaming small game and cattle. Guests are cautioned not to interact with these animals. Although our units are kept free from insects, guests are advised that they may appear around our cottages because of our location.
Access to Birdsong Cottages is via an 8km dirt road. The self-catering units are located at various positions on the farm and are also accessible via dirt roads. There is no cell phone signal at Birdsong Cottages.
We do allow children but take note that access to certain units are via a large staircase without a railing. Parents are warned to please not let their children roam around the property without supervision as we also have ponds and rock formations that are not safe for children.
If you have dreamt of an intimate wedding in the bush under African skies, consider what Birdsong Cottages have on offer. Lush private gardens surround the walkway to the romantic quaint thatched chapel. The 60 seater chapel has a large window overlooking the valley where the bride and groom exchange their vows.
The ‘Uitkyk’ and Edwin Cameron Boma both serve as a open air reception venue with ample parking for guests. No wedding is complete without photographs to capture your memories. At Birdsong, the lovely gardens, Bushveld backdrops and charming hidden corners in the garden offer plenty of photographic opportunities.
