Set on route to the Cango Caves, in the picturesque Schoemanshoek Valley (14 kilometers from Oudtshoorn), Berluda is an intimate guesthouse experience. It offers 6 en suite bedrooms (renovated in 2008) in the original Farmhouse and 6 self catering cottages (2 renovated and 4 newly built in 2007 & 2008).

The restaurant offers breakfast & dinners – reservations only. The beautiful lush gardens have 2 swimming pools and Berluda is furthermore surrounded by ostriches and apricot orchards, as well as our famous Karoo veld, where long hikes can be undertaken to enjoy the special indigenous vegetation.

Berluda is well known for its authentic South African farm hospitality and traditional South African cuisine. Owner, Piet Schoeman, runs one of the largest working ostrich farms in the area, and was elected the Western Cape’s “Young Farmer of the year 2006”. His wife Laura gives a tour in English, Afrikaans, German and/or Dutch. This is an experience which is not to be missed.

Accommodation

Room 1 - Matilda’s Room
Honeymoon suite with queen size bed and private patio overlooking swimming pool and lush garden. Spacious, light room with en suite bathroom including Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower. Named after the eldest Schoeman daughter, Matilda.

Room 2 - Jannie and Rosie’s Room
Luxury room with twin beds. Private patio overlooking garden and mountains. Spacious en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower and double basins. Named after the late Jannie Schoeman, and his wife Rosie, the matriarch of the family who started Berluda 10 years ago.

Room 3 - Lettie’s Room
Beautiful Victorian room with twin beds and private patio overlooking garden. En suite bathroom includes Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower. Named after the youngest daughter, Lettie.

Room 4 - Fanie’s Room
Spacious light room with antique interior and private patio overlooking garden. Twin beds and large en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower and double basins, accessible for wheelchairs. Named after the eldest son, Fanie.

Room 5 - Ouma Lettie’s Room
Lovely, cosy room with twin beds and private patio overlooking garden. En suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower and double basins. Named after the grandmother, Ouma Lettie, that lived with the family at Berluda.

Room 6 - Piet’s Room
Spacious black and white decorated room with twin beds and private patio overlooking garden and mountains. En suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower and double basins. Named after owner, Piet Schoeman.

Cottage 1
Lovingly restored, original farmstead with 2 bedrooms and spacious bathroom, ideal for families. Jacuzzi bath with separate toilet and shower and double basins. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and bedroom two has two single beds. In the living area there is one double sleeper coach. Fully equipped kitchen with fireplace and TV. Patio with stunning views overlooking the Schoemanshoek Valley. Private Braai facilities. Sleeps maximum six. Swimming pool nearby.

Cottage 2
Honeymoon cottage with queen bed and fully equipped kitchen. En suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate shower and toilet. Private Braai facilities and lovely view over the Swartberg Mountains. TV in room. Maximum 2 people. Swimming pool nearby.

Cottage 3
Newly built cottage with private patio and braai facilities and stunning view. Two bedrooms (1 double bed, 2 single beds) and one bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate toilet and shower. Fully equipped kitchen with TV in lounge. Lovely view of the mountains. Maximum 5 people. Swimming pool nearby.

Cottage 4
Lovely newly built cottage with private patio, braai facilities and stunning views. Wooden floors and antique furniture. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, ideal for families. Sleeps max 5. One bathroom with bath and shower, one with shower and toilet only. Fully equipped kitchen and TV in lounge. Swimming pool nearby.

Cottage 5
Newly built cottage with wooden floors and antique interior. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and en suite bathroom with shower, toilet and Jacuzzi bath.
