Location & Atttractions
The Underberg is situated right in the foothills of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg, which has been recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Underberg, in KwaZulu-Natal, is a small cattle farming community that is characterised by its fresh mountain streams and massive sandstone features. It is equipped with a grocery store, butchery, hardware supply store, restaurants, pubs and a petrol station; offering visitors these basic amenities.
This part of KwaZulu-Natal gets very hot in the summer (December to February) and very cold in the winter (between June and August). Winter is a fantastic time to enjoy the snow and sip on a glass of excellent South African wine in front of a fire. However, the other seasons each hold a unique and special appeal here too.
While visiting the Bergview Log Cabin and greater Underberg region, guests will have a host of things to do and see. Sani Pass is stunning, and we will arrange day trips to the highest pub in Africa (as 4 x 4 vehicles are essential). In addition, this is a hotspot for fly fishing, hiking and walking along the many trails, picnicking, mountain biking, golfing, horse riding, river tubing, bird-watching and viewing the ancient bushman paintings.
Pucketty Farm Stall offers a range of delicious homemade breads, pies, jams, and pickles; which make excellent gifs. Duck and Spoors is a favourite amongst children for its animal farm, while moms can relax at the tea garden or visit Vanilla Rose for gifts, décor items, clothing and accessories. Underberg Cheesery is a must for those who appreciate a good cheese. Visitors with a penchant for South African history can explore the little town of Himeville and its museum. Alternatively, guests needing some time out can book a spa treatment, or just relax and read a book.
