The Auberge Burgundy is set above the picturesque Old Harbour, in the historic heart of Hermanus, the hub of the famous Whale Route. The traveller’s love affair with Hermanus began well over a century ago. The magnificent scenery and perfect setting between mountains and sea, and the many opportunities for recreation and relaxation continue to attract visitors today.

The Auberge Burgundy is a charming Provençal style guesthouse with fragrant courtyards and stone terraces. It is surrounded by restaurants, the craft market, boutiques, art galleries and quaint shopping malls. Guests can enjoy walking on the famous Hermanus cliff path with its unique flora, while watching whales.

The Atlantic Ocean is only 50m from our front door. All this is just 90 minutes drive from Cape Town International Airport. Internet available.

Accommodation


Middle Room (1 room only)
Slightly smaller than the standard bedrooms, situated on first floor in main house. En-suite bathroom with shower. No balcony but beautiful mountain views. Double bed.

Standard Rooms (13 rooms - 10 in the garden and 3 at the pool)
The 5 rooms, no's 1-5 walk out onto the garden, while the other 5, rooms 6-10 are situated on the first floor. These 5 rooms all have balconies. Rooms 14-16 are situated around the pool. The standard bedrooms all have ¾ twin beds. Some have en-suite with shower and some have en-suite with bath.

Suites (2 rooms)
These 2 rooms are situated in the Main house, ¾ twin beds, en-suite bathrooms with showers, full lounge suite, balconies and view over Walker Bay. The rooms are very spacious.

Pool-side suite (1 room only)
3/4 twin beds, en-suite bathroom with shower and bath, separate lounge with fire-place, kitchen and stunning sea view from balcony.

Penthouse (1) sleeps six
Consists of 3 double rooms. Main bedroom: queen-size bed with en-suite bathroom with bath. The other two bedrooms with 2 × ¾ twin beds. These 2 rooms share a bathroom with shower and separate toilet. The penthouse also has its own kitchen and lounge. Fantastic views from every room.

Breakfast


A delicious buffet breakfast and full English breakfast is served at the Burgundy Restaurant daily, Monday to Sunday 8am till 9.30am. Included in rate.

Activities


Great White Shark Cage Diving & Surface Viewing
An excellent adventure! Go play "bait" with the famous Great White Sharks of Dyer Island. Breakfast / lunch and all diving equipment included, 98% sighting. Free trips or refunds are at the discretion of the skipper.

Whale Watching
An unforgettable journey. Experience marine wildlife with an accomplished skipper and trained guides. Departure from Kleinbaai on a 2.5 hour cruise Meet with Southern Right whales, Bryde's and Humpback whales, Cape fur seals, African penguins, great white shark, dolphins and various seabird species.

Local Whale Watching
Departure from Hermanus New Harbour on a 1.5 to 2 hour cruise. Wonderful whale sightings during July - December.

Flying over Walker Bay
Take a 40 minute flip in a small plane and see the whales from above.

Sea Kayaking in Walker Bay Sanctuary
1.5 hours on the water, delicious snacks and coffee included. Awesome scenery, maybe a few dolphins if you're lucky and from July to December avoid paddling into whales.

Local Wine Tour
A full, guided tour of the amazingly beautiful and famous wine farms of the Hemel 'n Aarde Valley are of the most southern vineyards of Africa and producers of some of the most exquisite export wine produced in South Africa. Lunches available at some wineries.

Horse Riding in Hermanus, Stanford or at Kleinmond
Take a ride through some of the Overberg’s most stunning scenery.

Boat Fishing
All tackle and bait provided. For a different experience out into Walker Bay.

Township Tour
A 2hour walk around Zwelihle with Willy, a friendly, local township elder. It’s a real insight into the 'other' South Africa. Pay Willy at his home.

Tandem Paragliding (when available, weather permitting)
If you can afford it, it's one of the things you'll remember when you are old! Totally amazing, breathtaking, fun, easy and very safe. No experience necessary.
