DESCRIPTION:
Crab Apple is the passion of Helen and Barend Booysen from the Dargle Valley in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Helen and Barend's passion for horses lead them to take up carriage driving. Shortly after they were requested to drive their marathon carriage at weddings and Crab Apple Carriage has grown from there.
Romantic, exhilarating, novel and exciting are just some of the words used to describe the ride on the Crab Apple Carriage. A horse and carriage adds to a wedding or special occasion a sense of fantasy. For many a bride it is a dream come true.
Currently Helen drives the carriage she uses to compete, The Phaeton Carriage, with Molly, her golden pony to pull it. It is a four wheeler carriage in green and cream and as this is a competitive carriage, the bride and groom drive standing up or seated behind Helen and holding onto the back of the carriage. When driving carriages for wedding Helen wears the traditional driving habit which creates a feeling of nostalgia.
Services
The Carriage can pick you up and carry you your ceremony and, if it is an outdoor wedding, even down the aisle. It can then collect you after the service and take you to your photos. It can be used as the backdrop to your wedding photographs and then take you to your reception. The flowers for the carriage may be supplied by your florist or Helen has several colourful silk bouquets that fix to the carriage. Please remember that the carriage is open, so it may be an idea to have an umbrella at hand to protect you from either the sunshine or the rain.
About the Crab Apple Wedding Carriage
Helen and Barend's passion for horses is great, they have 10 horses on their property and have always enjoyed riding and playing with them. They became involved in carriage driving 5 years ago and became the Chairman and Secretary of the KwaZulu Natal branch of the Horse and Carriage Society. In 2004 for Christmas, Helen was given her own turnout which is a carriage, trained horse and all the other items she needed. Their competitive carriage driving lead them into the wedding market as requests came in for weddings and prompted the development of Crab Apple Carriage.
Molly came as part of Helen's Christmas present and is a 14 year old golden Norwegian Fjiod pony with dark mane and tail who competes with Helen and Barend in their Phaeton Carriage. She is trained to the highest level for carriage, has won a number of events and is virtually "bombproof". Sturdy and willing, she is Helen's pride and joy, always to be relied upon and therefore perfect for leading the carriage for the weddings and special occasions.
Crab Apple Chapel
Up a steep country road, deep in the Dargle Valley in the midlands, is the large Crab Apple Chapel. Covered in ivy, it is a picture perfect country chapel. An icon in the area, it has now grown into a popular wedding chapel - See Crab Apple Chapel |
