There is no doubt that the Western Cape Province is loved amongst locals and tourists for many reasons. But, the Cape Winelands and its many exquisite wine estates continue to be one of the most popular, well-supported attractions of all. These produce some of the finest labels and wine varieties in the world.

From November to April, The Galileo Open Air Cinema will use 12 of these estates to be the esteemed venues of fantastic movie evenings. Visitors are invited to bring family and friends to watch a selection of popular movies under the black umbrella and bright stars of the Cape’s night skies.

These estates include Lourensford, Anthonij Rupert, Nederburg, Backsberg, Boschendal and Zevenwacht, amongst others. Each is unique, characterised by its own elegance and charm. However, they all have breath-taking settings and an undeniable sense of romance in common. Gorgeous backdrops of Franschhoek, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Kuils River and Somerset West await those with a love for all things chic.

The gates open at 18h00, inviting visitors to get in early and choose their spot well before the movie starts (at sunset). The line-up of The Galileo comprises more than 100 films. Depending on the date, film-watchers can look forward to watching Pretty Woman, Shakespeare in Love, Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, Romeo + Juliet, Amelie, Moulin Rouge, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Avatar, amongst others.

After a day of exploring the various surrounding estates and farms, visitors can book their seats, and then peruse the market at The Galileo Open Air Cinema venue, which showcases a number of food and beverage stalls. Some have coffees, sweets and snacks, while other offer something more robust and hearty. A number of them also have wines and other alcoholic beverages for movie viewers to enjoy. It is important to note that guests cannot bring their own alcoholic beverages.
