The Harlow family bought Wildekrans Wine estate in 2007 and continually to reap local and international awards for the superb wines. Positioned with the Bot Rivier ward, this farm underwent a great restoration phase and in 2012 was awarded the prestigious title of Wine estate of the Year award by the Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards. The first vines of Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc were planted in 1982.
To this day, there are 10 various cultivars grown on different slopes to suit the correct soil types. Braam Gericke is the viticulturist at Wildekraans and uses minimal intervention alongside modern winemaking techniques. The cool wines from walker Bay allow for a longer ripening period which produces grapes with great flavour and balance in acidity. The South Easter is ideal for the smaller berries of the Pinotage block. Only five tons per hectare are picked as quality is the main concern of this estate.
Chenin Blanc Barrel Select Reserve (BSR) and Sauvignon Blanc BSR are their premium white wines which are made from free run juices whilst their Chenin is matured in oak barrels for up to 12 months. The Pinotage BS is their flagship wine and the popular Wildekrans Methode Cap Classique takes about six months for the bottle to be de-gorged, labeled and sold.
