Weltevrede Wine Estate, just outside Bonnievale in the Robertson Valley, is set apart by its adventurous wines and gorgeous surrounds. The first vineyards were planted in 1912, and continue to yield awesome crops. Originally, the farm was much smaller. But, over the years, Lourens Jonker purchased the neighbouring farms called Muscadel, Riverís Edge and Sonop. Today, this estate is still in the Jonker name, having flourished under five generations of this family.
The varied soils and unique climate of this area have enabled Weltevrede to produce a number of different wines. Their Chardonnay is a particular favourite and has won a number of awards. In addition, they offer fortified wines, Weltevrede Gewurztraminer 2010, Syrah, Vanilla Chardonnay, Cherrychoc Merlot, Blanc de Blanc, Rosť, Brut Entheos (a Cap Classique), and Brut Aletheia.
Wine tastings are conducted from Mondays to Saturdays, and for a limited time on Public Holidays. In addition, there are tractor rides through the vineyards and to the river, underground cellar tours and a wine tasting by candlelight.
