About Welgelee Wine Estate
This Boutique Wine Estate was birthed from a wild idea that Chris and Lidea Meyer had when touring the oceans via their yacht. Welgelee means ‘well positioned’ and their love of farming and South Africa led them back here to follow their dream. They fell in love with this 30 Ha farm with its superb views and glorious sunsets and purchased it in May 1998.
To these winemakers, the process of producing wine is a work of art and all the vines are nurtured from the time they are planted. Hours are spent in the vineyards and the wedding venue is a popular place for couples to tie the knot. Chris coaxes the best quality yield from his 3 Ha Shiraz vineyards and Lidea inspects grapes headed for the cellar and together they make great wine.
When visiting the farm, you’ll meet their 8 friendly boerboels that roam around. The wedding and conference venue has become quite an important part of this farm and couples can be treated to a beautiful gardens, water features and outdoor ceremonies.
