About The Village Market
This is a true Village market offering handmade and home grown crafts and foods. Baskets leave laden with a multitude of delicious goodies to eat and talented crafters and local artists with unique handmade wares get together in a peaceful, outdoor environment where visitors make friends and locals catch up.
This market (the old Funky Fresh market) has been going for 15 years and now has a new banner to fly as The Village Market in Riebeek West. Held in the grounds of the Kasteelberg Trading Store, on Voortrekker Road (R311), Riebeek West, under the shady Wild Olive trees, this market is synonymous with the Swartland and the Riebeek Valley.
Fresh breads and farm butter, handmade speciality cheeses, a unique knife sharpening service on site, leather candy accessories, soft toys from yesteryear, real English pork pies & shortbread, virgin olive oil and a variety of olive products from the Valley, pancakes and brekkie burgers, baked pastries and tarts, fresh hot dogs with a variety of toppings, homemade preserves and sauces and African Fusion food, unique hats, coats and jewellery, 100% natural body and facial products together with plants, herbs, pesto's, delicious curries and biryani, make up some of the classic stalls.
The Valley’s Steel band regularly play a medley of tunes that allow the youth to show off their musical and performance skills at the market. Good old fashioned vinyl records to buy and music from the past brings nostalgia to a market that brings locals and visitors back each month. Stay in the Valley and visit The Village Market! All table fees from the stallholders go to the Old Age Home in Riebeek West as a community project.
