Franschhoek is in the heart of the Cape Winelands, and is renowned as the food and wine capital of South Africa. It is romantic, charming and intriguing, with an endless variety of engaging stores, restaurants and attractions to explore. It is within this idyllic setting that the Tuk Tuk Microbrewery has seen its ongoing success and growth.

The brewery has a capacity of only 250 litres, and each beer is imbued with a sense of excellence and a true appreciation for the brew. Thirsty visitors can choose from a number of one-of-a-kind options that will soon have their own Tuk Tuk brand. There are also delicious choices from the CBC brand, which partners with Tuk Tuk. These are the Amber Weiss, Imperial IPA, Indian Pale Ale, Pilsner, Lager and Krystal Weiss. Various tasting options are available to those who want to sample the full range or more than one before ordering.

The food menu promises a delicious meal, whether a light snack or something heartier, to complement these beers to perfection. Try the game fish ceviche with tortilla crisps, spicy nachos, cheese quesadilla, slow-cooked beef taco, or the chilli and lime chicken wings. The vanilla and chilli crème brulée with tequila-poached strawberries is a must for those with a sweet tooth. Diners wanting something even more decadent should try the spiced churros with a Nyangbo dark chocolate and chilli dipping sauce.

The industrial chic of the interior makes for a glamorous, elegant setting that is still laid back. There is indoor seating, where patrons can watch the Tuk Tuk brews being made. Alternatively, there is inviting outdoor seating, from where the vibrant main street of Franschhoek, abuzz with international tourists, can be enjoyed.

Franschhoek is about an hour from Cape Town and its international airport. The wine farms of Stellenbosch, Pniel and Paarl are all close by and are definitely worth a visit for those with a taste for excellent red, white and sparkling varieties.
