About Visit the Tokai Arboretum

Through the forest and up the hill, past the old Tokai Manor Hall which was built in 1795 you will find the Tokai Arboretum, first established in 1886 by Joseph Storr Lister, Chief conservator of forests for the Cape Colony.

The idea behind the arboretum was to see what trees from around the world would grow and flourish in this area. You will find hundreds of species here including Californian redwoods and Oaks of various ages.

Bring your family and enjoy a stroll through the park. For the more energetic, why not get on the Elephants Eye hiking trail. Mountain biking is popular here too with a varied terrain to ride through challenging riders at different levels.

There is a tea room where you can sit and relax in this peaceful environment, taking in all around you while sipping on a well deserved refreshment. Be sure to stop in at the visitors centre for more information about adventure guides and activities in the area.

The Saturday organic market is very popular to visit on Saturdays, held at the neighbouring Porter Estate.
