Located within the sumptuous surrounds of the restored Queen’s Hotel, The Colony feels like the place that time forgot - but in all the best ways. This restaurant will provide you will the opportunity to don your best frock or suit, your jewels and high-heels and make a night of it. In short, The Colony is all about old world glamour.
To start, we love the sound of the beetroot salad, served with tantinki goat’s cheese and walnuts, or the carpaccio of ostrich, served with aioli, capers and parmesan shavings. The tiger prawns also whet our appetites, beautifully prepared in tempura batter and served with stir-fried noodles. The Kaaps Karoo platter for two is a must-have, with bobotie samoosa and peach chutney; ostrich sosatie; boerewors; pap and corn cake with 'tamatie smoor'; butternut cakes and curry beans.
We love the carefully chosen mains menu, with homemade cannelloni; filet of ostrich, served with mushroom duxelle, port wine sauce and french fries; the Karoo rack of lamb; loin of Springbok, which is served with horseradish mashed potato, caramelised onions, cape gooseberries and red wine jus.
With such an impressive selection of mouth-watering gourmet delights, The Colony proves to us why it is one of Oudtshoorn’s most popular fine dining restaurants, having garnered awards for its award-winning a la carte menu.
