The Barnard Gallery was established in 2010 by owner and director, Christiaan Barnard. Located within the upmarket, tree-lined suburb of Newlands, the surrounds perfectly suit its stylish and contemporary surrounds, showcasing equally prestigious artworks. The double-volume gallery is on street level and its sparse interior acts as a fresh backdrop to the installations. With an owner so passionate about the gallery, art and burgeoning talent, the gallery brings his vision to life, and brings art and collectors together.
The Barnard Gallery explores various kinds of contemporary art , visuals and mixed media. Even though it is relatively new, The Barnard Gallery is fast becoming known as a locus for talented and respected artists on the art scene: Willie Bester produces mixed media assemblages, Tracy Payne continues to mesmerize her ardent fans with her powerful drawings, and Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi’s works are politically inspired, reflecting moments in South Africa’s rich cultural diversity and capturing historical moments.
The Barnard Gallery team pride themselves on providing a platform for local artists that not only showcase their art within the gallery, but give them exposure and market artists via advertising and marketing strategies. This connects artists with collectors, art enthusiasts and ultimately buyers, both locally and internationally. The Barnard Gallery understand the power of global accessibility and are passionate about promoting local artists all over the world.
