The origin of Summerhill lies with JG Snyman who was granted the farm in 1837. He had discovered the fertile soil on the slopes of Summerhill and gathered that his vineyards planted would yield great wines. The second generation of the Hunting family now own the farm and continue this legacy.
As a boutique wine farm, Charles and Ingrid, pride themselves in the personal care that is given to the vines. When tasting the Shiraz Merlot 2009, keep in mind that the harvest of 2009 was warmer resulting in riper and sweeter fruit being evident in this wine.
You can also taste white pepper and red berry. Their Chenin Blanc 2011 is a wine perfect to enjoy immediately. The best Chenin is produced from older vines and is bets paired with curries, chicken, fish and cheese.
The Dorpstraat Restaurant Theatre which was once in the centre of Stellenbosch moved to the tranquility of the Summerhill farm. Itís an intimate theatre come restaurant serving delicious food such as deep-fried camembert, snoek parcels, koeksisters, breedies, stews and fine wines. So come along with the family for a night to enjoy upcoming talent. There is music, comedy, plays and cabaret nights on offer.
