The Struisbaai Sea Shack is the Overberg's answer to seafood lovers with a sense of fun and a penchant for feeling the sand between their toes. Along the unspoilt coastline of this region of the Western Cape, the Sea Shack is a traditional seafood buffet that enjoys a vibe of its own.
The Struisbaai Sea Shack serves delicious lunches and decadent dinners in a spacious outdoor dining area that can seat up to 400 diners. Lunches start at 12h00 and dinners at 17h00, and each meal takes between two and three hours to savour.
The setting is earthy and laid back, with few airs and graces. However, this does not compromise on delicious, quality cuisine for the hungry and discerning. Popular buffet items include seafood paella, freshly baked bread, vetkoek, curried fish, snoek on the braai, local line fish served with sweet potatoes, a hearty lamb potjie, tasty mussels in a creamy sauce, prawns in the secret Sea Shack sauce, smoked yellowtail and a range of vegetables and salads. To round it off, enjoy syrupy koeksisters and a cup of real, South African moer koffie (a strong coffee brew that will wake you right up). Diners should bring their own alcoholic beverages. While the prawns are paid for separately, all other items are on an eat-all-you-can basis. The buffet is R250 per person and the prawns are an additional R150 for 20.
The seating is shaded for those sweltering summer days, and guests can relax as they dig into the sea sand with their toes.
There is plenty of parking (for cars, tour busses and everything in-between) as well as ablutions. There are no credit card facilities.
The Struisbaai Sea Shack is a popular choice for company functions, team building exercises, parties and celebrations, and weddings.
The nearby Struisbaai Harbour is always abuzz with the activities of local fishermen. Visitors and locals alike can stroll around, meet these hard-working folk and buy the freshest of fish from them.
