About Springfield Estate
Just two hours out of Cape Town, the family-owned and run estate of Springfield in Robertson boasts a breath-taking beauty that is quite unforgettable. The Bruwer family descended from the French Huguenot settlers, the Bruères, who arrived in this country with bundles of vines under their arms in the late 17th century.
The environmental conditions at Springfield Estate are tough, which has yielded famously resilient vines and delicious grapes. The vines cover a large area, meaning that different terroirs help to produce different grapes and, therefore, wines. These include - but are not limited to - Chardonnay, a wild yeast Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Springfield Farm offers spectacular views (best enjoyed from the dam on a hot day), particularly of the Langeberg Mountains. The cellar complex invites visitors to witness the processes necessary to make the perfect wine. Springfield even bottles and labels their own wines to reduce their dependence on any outside source. Instead of using excessive pesticides, ducks are allowed to roam freely through the vineyards, ridding the plants of destructive snails.
