About South African Market
SAM, or the South African Market, is a designer emporium (shop) aimed at showcasing a variety of local designers. It is located in an airy space on Shortmarket Street (having moved from its warehouse-style address on Bree Street where it formerly stood above Parada Restaurant). On its shelves are the wares of dozens of South African designers’ creations - you may recognise some of the brands - Ilundi, Essie Letterpress, Bamboo Revolution, Ash Ceramics, Skermunkil and Handmade By Me.
SAM specialises in the best of local design, decor, fashion and furniture, and there is something on display for everyone - womenswear, babywear, menswear, accessories, homeware, jewellery, stationery, art and illustrations.
SAM is for those who want to buy local.
The idea behind SAM: find all your unique South African products in one place; a one-stop shop for locally designed products. It started as an idea for an online platform, but soon moved to the space on Bree Street, opened in December 2013.
