Named after 17th century Cape Governor, Simon van der Stel, Simonsvlei Winerycan be found in the Paarl Valley and Groot Drakenstein area. In the challenging post-war period of 1945, a group of grape farmers founded Simonsvlei. A combination of the cool breezes and microclimates and a setting beside the mountain ranges of Paarl and Simsonberg, made this a perfect spot to produce wine.
The farmers aimed to produce larger amounts of quality wine that would still be affordable to the common man. Thanks to co founder Sonny le Roux and great knowledge of its other partner Oom Sarel, Simonsvlei can compete with some of the greatest South African wines. It has a wine grape production of 9000 metric tons delivered by 36 various wine farms which includes varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay.
Visit the farm and enjoy a meal on the veranda of the eat@simonsvlei restaurant. Go for breakfast, wood-fired pizza or fresh country lunch along with one of their wines for sale at cellar door prices including the Simonsvlei Simons Blanc, Simonsvlei Lifestyle Stein, Simonsvlei Lifestyle Blanc de Blanc, Simonsvlei Perfect Couple Simonsrood, Simonsvlei Humbro Hanepoot or the Simonsvlei Humbro Red Jerepiko.
