Clanwilliam, a small town in the Cederberg, is a firm favourite for its unique character and its history. This area may be quiet and understated in terms of tourism and commerce, but that belies the fact that it is actually known the world around for being the source of rooibos tea. This South African brew is not only delicious; it is also extremely tasty, devoid of caffeine, and suitable for people of all ages. It is high in anti-oxidants and has many other healthful properties.

The Rooibos Teahouse is situated at NetMar in Clanwilliam, and is all about celebrating the variety, flavour and wonderful benefits of this tea. In fact, this is the only rooibos tea house on the planet, and visitors are invited to be a part of this unique experience.

There are over 100 different flavours and blends of rooibos tea that are available to taste and purchase. These include the green, fermented, espresso, caramel, buchu, peach, cancerbush, lemongrass, hoodia and mint teas, as well as flavoured rooibos varieties (like chai, camomile and lavender).

Tea tastings offer the opportunity to smell, taste and drink seven different teas (of your choice). Included in a tasting is a brief explanation of the history of the area and the rooibos industry, as well as how tea is made. Alternatively, order a pot of your favourite rooibos and sip it on the veranda or in the garden, enjoying the warmth of a summer’s day or the crisp cool of winter.

There are gifts and keepsakes available at the Rooibos Teahouse. These make for excellent gifts for friends and family back home that want to enjoy a real taste of South Africa. Clanwilliam is about 2.5 hours’ drive from Cape Town.
