The Rooibos factory is based in the small town of Clanwilliam, and originally started as a cottage industry. It has grown over the years, to supply Rooibos tea globally, being the market leader with a market share of 90 - 95% in the local market and 50 - 60% internationally.

The Rooibos story began in the Cederberg area of the Western Cape, when local inhabitants discovered that the fine, needle-like leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant made a tasty, aromatic tea. They harvested the wild plants, bruised and fermented them, before drying them out in the sun.

Rooibos tea is a ‘super-food’, with its antioxidant properties having been proven in scientific testing. It is also recommended for people suffering with ailments ranging from irritability, headaches, insomnia, to nervous tension, mild depression or hypertension, digestive problems and the relief of stomach cramps in infants. Rooibos has a soothing effect on the skin when applied topically as a cream, relieving itching and certain skin irritations such as eczema and nappy rash.

We’ve always been great fans of Rooibos tea, and since the launch of their caffeine-free iced-tea, Rooibos is also available in stores as a thirst-quenching, healthy alternative to soda.
