The Roodezandt farm is the site of the first Robertson plots on which the modern-day town was first built. Today, the wine farm, which was established in the mid-20th century, still exudes the charm of its long history.
Roodezandt Winery is made up of 60 members and focuses on providing wine in bulk to the whole of South Africa, as well as to an international market. However, their bulk product does not mean that they negotiate on quality. Wholesalers are assured of excellent quality Colombar, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Special Late Harvest, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 Veritas Gold, Red Muscadel, White Muscadel and even grape juice, amongst others.
Cellar tours are conducted from Monday to Friday (preferably by appointment) and reveal the ins-and-outs of producing world-class wines in bulk. Tastings allow visitors to learn about the different grapes and how they form the end product’s effect on the palate.
Being in the heart of Robertson, visitors to Roodezandt may also explore this historical little town, as well as the landscape. There are a number of hiking routes (e.g. the Dassieshoek, Arrangieskop, Fish Eagle, Waterfall, Vrolijkheid and Boesmanskloof trails), as well as river rafting tours and hot springs.
