About Rocklands Petting Farm

Nothing delights little ones more than the opportunity to interact with animals. It enlightens them, giving them an important insight into the needs and personalities of animals, while creating a place where they can be relaxed and at ease with wildlife that may otherwise have made the children nervous.

Rocklands Petting Farm is the perfect place for parents to pop over and enjoy the glorious outdoor setting of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Being situated at the foot of the impressive Kleinrivier Mountain, the Rocklands Petting Farm is close to the coastal town of Hermanus. This is a quiet retreat from the big city, but comes alive every year between June and November, when scores of whales skirt past the coast and perform their unique antics for the onlookers.

Some of the residents of the farm include ducks, baboons, goats, fowl, and pigs. Many can be cuddled, while some prefer the luxury of being hand-fed by their visitors. They are accustomed to contact with humans and tend to relish the attention, approaching young and old quite freely. This is sure to illicit plenty of giggles and “awwws”, and makes for stunning photographs. Of course, the animals have first priority here, and visitors are warned that they may scare or kick occasionally. Therefore, the farm cannot take responsibility for the safety of those interacting with the animals.

There is also a play area at the Rocklands Petting Farm, which is a fantastic place for children to play; giving their folks a chance to enjoy a picnic nearby. Picnic baskets can be ordered from Rocklands (at least a day prior to coming). In addition, braai facilities allow families and groups of friends to meet here and enjoy a day of fun, away from iPhones and TV screens.

Cape Town is about an hour’s drive from the petting farm and is full of exciting things to do and see. In fact, it remains one of the world’s top tourist destinations.
