The 'Paternoster se Padstal' is, as the name suggests, set just off the main road of Paternoster on the Cape West Coast. Although not as big as Die Winkel op Paternoster which is located on the opposite side of the road, this little shop sells anything from T-shirts to fudge, to shell mobiles, jars of marinated mussels and finally dried fish!
The unusual smell of dried fish, known in these parts as ‘bokkom’ takes a bit of getting used to, but don’t let that stop you from venturing in to Paternoster se Padstal, even if it is only for a few minutes. Please take note of the sign at the front door that warns you to ‘Beware of the cat’ - the innocent looking feline dozing in the sun is a most ferocious guard!
