About New Harbour Distillery
Cape Town is full of history and character, surprising little treasures in unexpected places. New Harbour Distillery is one of these, and certainly promises visitors a unique experience of flavour, class and adventure in the heart of the Woodstock, in what used to be the industrial centre of Cape Town’s harbour.
This distillery produces hand-crafted spirits in small batches, using chemistry and science to create unique artisan spirits, mainly gins and vodkas, of the highest quality. New Harbour Distillery follows a strict philosophy on being carbon neutral. So, all by-products are recycled and reused (whether in the distillery or the greenhouse). Some are supplied to the farms in the city as fertiliser, animal feed and cleaning materials.
The ingredients for the vodka infusions and gin selections are sourced from the same organic farms and suppliers in the city. In addition, New Harbour Distillery grows some of their own fresh natural ingredients on site with a hydroponic greenhouse. This ensures that these spirits are not only responsibly made, but also boast the freshest and most delicious flavours.
Currently, the artisan spirits available here are:
Copper catalysed vodka (exuding light floral flavours, warm and smooth textures and hints of vanilla, fruit and spice)
Spekboom gin (characterised by flavours of juniper, coriander and spicy citrus that finish with the floral sweetness of the spekboom plant and lavender)
Rooibos-infused gin (a real South African take on gin, this one has strong influences of juniper, almonds and sweet orange peel with smooth floral notes)
In addition, this distillery can custom-make gins and vodkas in small quantities for special occasions; such as for weddings, hotels, or commercial brands.
Tastings are conducted here, inviting visitors to sample some of the delicious magic that is taking place in the name of distillery science. This experience includes a tour of the distillery itself, and insights provided by the distillers themselves.
