The Cape Town suburb of Muizenberg is known for its excellent beach with great swimming, surfing, SUP-ing and kite-surfing opportunities. However, the Muizenberg Swimming Pool is also a fantastic option for those wanting to cool off, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy a day of sunshine and fresh air.
This facility is all about adventure and fun. There is the large, main pool, which is 22 metres long, 22 metres wide (variably, as it is unusually shaped) and 1.2 metres deep. The kiddies’ pool is five metres long, four metres wide and only half a metre deep. But, in addition to these is a sliding pool (with a depth of one metre), with a slide that goes into the main pool, adding to the thrill and variety of the Muizenberg pool and its features. The main pool has an interesting curved design. So, while swimming laps is perfectly acceptable, it is not quite as simple as swimming in a straight line.
The grassy area is perfect for those that want to suntan, relax with a good book, enjoy a picnic, or relax in the warmth of summer. There are ablution facilities for the convenience of the swimmers, complete with showers and change rooms. There is also a kiosk, where snacks and refreshments are available. Nothing works up an appetite like a good swim, and kids will love grabbing a packet of crisps or an ice-cold drink between laps.
Muizenberg Swimming Pool can accommodate just over 600 people, and lifeguards are on duty during the peak of the season.
