This hike is relatively easy and suitable for children aged six and over. Grab your torch, camera, water and sunscreen and get ready for a fun adventure.
Beginning on Boyes Drive at Baileys Kloof, you climb up a series of stone steps into the Mimetes Valley where you can stop and take in the breathtaking views of False Bay. From here you continue to the much anticipated cave.
At one point along the journey you will notice that you can see all the way from Hangklip to Cape Point, which is rather spectacular. Switch on your torch and shed some light on the walls so you can admire the stunning san paintings. Make sure to shine the light on the floor in front of you as there is lots of water making the rocks slippery and at some point there is a 6 meter drop you need to avoid. Take caution when walking through the cave and ensure children are supervised at all times.
The descent after the cave is pleasant and rather easy, giving you a chance to look around at the fabulous Fynbos in Peck’s Valley that smothers the mountainside, and head back down to Boyes Drive. If you are keen for a longer walk, start at Muizenberg station and follow the trail towards Baileys Kloof.
