About Morgenhof Wine Estate

Amongst the families with winemaking experience arriving from La Rochelle, an export harbour for famous Cognac brandies, was the Cointreaus. In 1692 they were granted ownership of Morgenhof. Anne Cointreau’s can trace her family back to 1210 when they were already making Cognac and liqueurs.

She brought a world of experience to Morgenhof which was granted estate status in 1998, 74 hectares under vine and produces 35 000 cases of quality wines per year. The boldness and beauty of the bird illustrated on the Fantail label reflects the character of Morgenhof’s range of wines (including a rosé, a white and three red wines). South African artist, Piet Grobler, designed the bird’s plumage to symbolise the ‘extravagance of flavour’ found in each bottle.

When you picnic on the lawns, there are also vegetarian basket and kiddies menu available. Enjoy winter lunches at the Morgenhof restaurant. With 22 hectares of Fynbos, the estate qualified as a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative of SA and works towards implementing environmentally responsible practices on the farm and in the cellar.
