Just 65km to the North-East of Cape Town, bordering the celebrated epicentre of South African wine production and at the foot of the Hawequa Mountain in Wellington, lays the esteemed and elegant Mont Du Toit Kelder. With Clovelly Hutton soils, sunny north and north-western facing slopes the 28 hectares of Mont Du Toit are simply flourishing with vines growing on the weathered granite. Sandy loams fill the lower basin.
The du Toit name is synonymous with wine farming; the family have been participating in the art for over three-hundred years since the French Huguenot founder of the family first established the farm in 1691.
This history is symbolized in the labels on the Mont Du Toit wines, “The mountain silhouette is that of the Hawequa Mountain, the French names honour our Huguenot forbears and the Khoi figure on the Hawequas label recalls our bond with Africa and its sun.”
The elegant wines are also labelled in terms of which part of the estate the berries were grown upon and labelled as either, The Mountain, The Slopes or The Summit.
Mont Du Toit produces a range of blends; Hawequas, Les Coteaux, Les Sommet and their Flagship - Month Du Toit. The Single cultivar range of; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz are bottled under Les Coteaux label.
