About Malanot Wines

From a young age, owner Marius Malan was exposing to wine making practices. He grew up on a farm named Staart van Paardeberg where his Dad farmed wine grapes and his grandfather developed Paardeberg area as a wine region. He brings years of experience as Slaley’s Chief Winemaker and Viticulturist and ample academic knowledge on wine-making and branding to the table. Malanot makes wine for other estates that have grapes, but no cellar.

Maruis has a philosophy of letting the natural wine-making process have its way instead of forcing it. Minimal interference is the key. He uses wild yeast and healthy, older barrels. He doesn’t believe that anything should be removed from the wine, other than protein stability in white wine. The farm has four ranges including Akkerdraai, Cherry Blossom, The Flower Pot and Vino Café.

Akkerdraai is a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and spent 26 months maturing in French Oak and only 3500 bottles are available. It reached a 4.5 star platter rating and has flavours of milk chocolate, fruit cake and mulberries.
