About Louiesenhof Wines

Stefan Smit’s great grandfather bought Louisenhof which formed part of Koopmanskloof in 1896. Wheat, cattle and grapes were farmed and brandy was distilled since 1860. When Stefan’s father started farming there in 1948, he planted 640 hectares under the vine. Louisenhof Wines can be found outside Stellenbosch and is currently owned by Stefan Smit who aims to produce wines in harmony with nature.

He is the cellar master and produces Perroquet Cape Tawny, a unique style of port wine which is made in a distilling kettle. He also produced South Africa’s first bio-organic wine in 191 whilst working with his father, Stevie Smit from Koopmanskloof.

Louiesenhof is a member of the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy which works to preserve endangered fynbos and rare plants in the area. Boland Granite fynbos and Swartland Granite Fynbos can be found in the Koopmanskloof private nature reserve. Stay at the luxurious Louiesenhof Guest House with a walk-in jacuzzi on the deck.

Some of their wine offerings include: Louiesenhof Merlot Pétillant Rosé 2008, Louiesenhof Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Louiesenhof Cape Blend (Pinotage / Cabernet Sauvignon) 2010, Louiesenhof Marbonne Brandy and Louiesenhof Perroquet Cape Tawny Port which is a blend of 1993, 1994 & 1995 vintages.
