North of Wellington in the Agtergroenberg district is the farm Boplaas. Sue and David Power are the owners and have been on the farm for 10 years whilst running the Rapi Farming cc. On this delightful farm with its lake, view of the majestic mountain and lush green grass, there is a lot going on. Here you’ll find way more than just wine.
Longbarn is a newly established micro winery. Vineyards are grown on a small scale here and were planted quite a while back. Both the grapes and wine are produced on the Boplaas farm including Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Due to the small quantities of grapes grown, the winemaker can pay extra attention and ensure a hands-on winemaking procedure.
On the farm you’ll find beef cattle, SA Merino sheep as well as Evita figs. Seven hectares of the farm are planted to these figs which are a Turkish black variety with a deep red inside and wonderful sweetness. The Evita figs are grown, picked and packed on Boplaas. The green fig preserve they make comes from the White Genoa figs grown on a small area. Some figs are supplied to the local market while most are exported.
