Lanzerac is a wine estate that had been recognised for hundreds of years as a symbol of luxury, quality and prestige. It all begun in 1692 a still to this day, connoisseurs know that they will receive nothing less than the very best in quality wines.
Deep within the Jonkershoek valley, you can fine Lanzerac vineyards. In the traditional French way of fusing a country hotel and wine estate, Lanzerac followed this path and saw its homestead renovated into a luxury manor in 1958.
When Christo Wiese bought the farm in 1991, he transformed the land and homestead and worked at restoring its Cape Dutch Architecture. Wynand Hamman is the man behind the wine making. And once he began working on the farm, he replanted the vineyards and rebuilt the cellar to reflect a more modern process of wine making.
The estate is 155 hectares, which allows Wynand to personally care much more of the varieties grown and Lanzerac became one of the forerunners in growing noble white varieties. Needless to say, their wines have been recognised locally and internationally and can be found scattered in all parts of the world such as Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, USA and the Far East.
One of the newer ranges includes the de Forellen range which is produced in a ‘fruit-forward’ fashion. The winemaker takes to handling the grapes in a gentle manner to allow the fruit to fully come through in the wines.
