The estate of La Petite Provence originally formed past of the grand La Provence wine farm and like most estates in Franschhoek owe it’s legacy to that of the 17th century French Huguenots who settled here when fleeing religious persecution.
This picturesque village is well-known as the culinary capital of South Africa and also an area where great wines can always be found. Construction of Le Petite Provence began in 200 when four hectares of new vines were planted. 2006 saw the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon ready for harvest and the company Olifantshoek Wine Company (Pty) Ltd (owned by La Petite Provence Wine Trust) sells their red wines under the name of ‘Le Petite Provence’ and white wines under ‘Olifantshoek’. Amongst the vines of this estate you’ll find about 150 houses and apartments nestled between the vineyards.
Their range includes a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Olifantshoek Sauvignon Blanc. The New World style Merlot’s juicy plum and dark cherry fruit flavours goes well with meat, pasta and cheese dishes whilst the Mélange (meaning ‘mix’ in French) is a beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
