On the slopes of the Middagkrans Mountain lies Le Petite Ferme with its Clovelly, Glenrosa, ’Koffieklip’ and Jozini soils. The estate is owned by Mark and Josephine Dendy Young who believe that quality wines are produced when the soils are balanced and not too rich in minerals. Le Petite Ferme’s soils are fertilized with cereal crops, cuttings and natural mulch.
The farm is almost a self-sustaining working farm and grafts its own rootstocks which are stored in a hothouse until its ready to be planted. With a Mediterranean climate, berry damage is limited and the grapes received daily sunshine and summer winds which add a cooling element. Despite the challenge of producing Sauvignon Blanc inland, La Petite Ferme’s Sauvignon Blanc is their flagship wine.
You can join one of their daily cellar tours. Enjoy their Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. And don’t miss out on the Le Petite Ferme Restaurant which has been listed by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the 15 ‘best value’ restaurants in the world.
