Just off the N7 in the Olifants River Valley you’ll find the Klawer Co-operative Cellar which has been in operation since 1956. The cellar has chosen to produce top quality wine with the limited production of cultivars including Shiraz, Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. Wine include Late Harvest and dessert wines, reds, sparkling wine and a variety of dry whites.
The location has a special history, for those who are interested. Back in 1902 a clash ensued between the troops of General Jan Smuts and British troups. There are also a number of wonderful rock art at various mountain sites in the area, however many of these areas are only able to be visited with permission as well as escort from Bergkraal 4x4 owner, Mr van Zyl.
This young cellar produces wine of an excellent quality and also matures wines for neighbouring cellars. The south facing slopes and rich soil of the vineyards work together with the cool evening breeze that comes off the Atlantic Ocean to produce delicious fruit.
You are able to taste and purchase these award winning wines at the cellar.
