Yet another gem you can find along Bottelary Road in the Stellenbosch district is Kaapzicht, which has been owned by the Steytler family since 1946.
Kaapzicht means ‘Cape View’ and alludes to the scenic view of the city of Cape Town and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, Table Mountain. Danie and George Steytler are third generation owners of this wine estate and together with their families play a vital role in wine making.
Danie is the cellar master and mans the sales, George the viticulturist tending to the vineyards andDanie Junior is the winemaker. Kaapzicht grows 70% red cultivars including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, Cinsaut, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Pinot Noir and 30% white cultivars mainly Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, some Muscat d'Alexandrie and Chardonnay.
All grapes (except for the Port wine) are grown on the farm and vinified in their cellar. Their wines are exported to 20 international countries and within South Africa.
Aside from their wines, Kaapzicht also produces sweet dessert wine, Grappa, Pot Still Brandy and grape juice.
