Journey’s End produces both red and white wines. With Leon Esterhuizen as General Manager and winemaking, they are in good hands. The berries for the white wines are hand-selected in the vineyards, half are whole bunch pressed while the rest are crushed and undergo three hours of skin contact before being pressed. The juices are cold-soaked before fermentation, inoculation and stirring the lees two times in two months. Wine is then matured in barrels for 9 months.
The red wine grapes are first de-stemmed and lightly crushed. Grapes are then cold-soaked, inoculated with yeast, fermented and then matured. Once it as extracted enough wood character from the barrel, it is racked into tanks for blending and bottling. They produce four varietal wines. Once they bought new vineyards in 2008 and 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Semillion and Petit Verdot were planted. Two premium wines of ‘The Cape Doctor’ and ‘Destination’ were added to their portfolio. This estates works closely with a local church to assist in uplifting the community of Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
