For those who love to go slightly off the beaten track in search of the lesser-known gems, then Hidden Valley is a place you have to visit. Itís easy to see that the owner Dave Hidden has spent a lot of time bring fynbos back to the area and removing alien vegetation.
Before you even reach the cellar, views from the ramp up to it will bring a smile to your face. Dave bought the farm in 1998 after first seeing the land in the 70ís. To this day he believes and values the importance of working with nature. The estate produces four quality wines grown on the estate and three from grapes grown on his other estate, Landís End Wines.
He produces one white wine, Hidden Valley Sauvignon Blanc (100% Sauvignon Blanc) and three reds: Hidden Valley Pinotage (Pinotage 100%); Hidden Valley Hidden Gems (a 50:50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot); and Hidden Valley Hidden Secret, their flagship wine (Shiraz, 60%, Tannat, 27% and Mourvedre,13%). Hidden valley also produces olives, olive oil and tapenade for their own 400 trees.
Award winning chef Bertus Basson will prepare a phenomenal meal at their restaurant, Overture, so be sure to book as you may be on a waiting list of a month or so. Thereís a wine tasting menu, picnic-hampers for the gardens and a fynbos trail to enjoy.
