About Hex River Crossing
Over 200 hundred years ago, the farm was reknowned for its livestock auctions and was once known as Vendutie Kraal. Vendutie is the Dutch word for Auction. When visiting the farm, you will cross the railway line which the same one the early settlers used to cross over the Hex River towards the North. The original cellar was built in 1936 and hadn’t been used for 30 years.
De Villiers Graaff and AJ Reyneke bough the neighbouring grape farm and partner with Leon Dippenar, the present winemaker at Hex River Crossing Private Cellar. Once the pumps were serviced, French oaks barrels brought in and grapes sourced, the first vintage was produced in 2004. Leon comes with great experience from responsibility as viticulturalist at Graham Beck to sourcing grapes for specific wine styles. Their wines continue to excel and impress.
