Oudtshoorn is a cultural hub, and known as the home of the ostrich. Being part of the Karoo, its landscape is unique. Although somewhat arid, it remains beautiful, sometimes eerily so in places. It provides a fascinating combination of vast expanses of scrubby veld, looming mountain ranges, and exquisite valleys and gorges.
The Gamkaberg Nature Reserve in this setting is home to the Guarrie Trail. Although only measuring 700 metres, this trail is worth the 20 minutes it takes to complete. It exhibits some of the gorgeous Klein Karoo vegetation, as well as a number of local bird species. It is particularly abundant in flora, which is quite unusual for this part of the country.
The Guarrie Trail is easy to complete, making it perfect for families with children, or those that are less fit.
