Executive chef, Duane Lewis, heads the restaurant at Grootbos, situated a few kilometers from Gansbaai, up. The menu is inspired by fresh and seasonal ingredients, including fresh fish sourced directly from the local harbour in Gansbaai or Hermanus, beef from the Overberg region, free range eggs gathered from Grootbos' resident chickens and produce freshly grown on site by the team of Green Futures Horticultural & Life Skills College.
Diners are greeted by extensive views of Walker Bay and the surrounding fynbos – a beautiful natural backdrop to the star attraction – the menu! Each dish is like a work of art, with beautiful colours swirling round the plate, complementing beautifully prepared food that stems from a chef who is passionate about what he does.
An excerpt from an evening set menu included; poached prawn with avocado salsa and red pepper coulis or roast butternut & thyme pannacotta with caramelized onion. Smoked beef fillet, cider Fondant, tomato relish and garlic jus or the grilled line fish, minted greens with onion & lemon Dressing. The espresso semifreddo with star-aniseed tagliatelle sounds interesting! To finish, the vanilla & caramel compilation or selection of cheese & homemade compote, preferably enjoyed with a digestif, sounds like a 5* finish to a meal at Grootbos.
