About Groot Parys Estate

The origins of Groot Parys begin in 1699 when the Governor of the Dutch East India Company signed over farming land to French Hugenot, Jean le Roux. That was when the first dream in this tale was realised. When the Groot Parys became an estate in 2002, a second dream was realised by the owners and referred to as ‘Die Tweede Droom’ (The Second Dream in Afrikaans).

The farm and it’s staff is managed by Donovan, once the grapes are harvested, the next part of the partnership, Wine maker Naudé Bruwer, takes the grapes to the next level until they are bottled. One the farm, there is an area which has been liked to that of the Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape area in France. Vines here are 25 years old and this is precisely where ‘Die Tweede Droom’ grapes are grown.

After years of tipping, trimming and pruning throughout the season, the winemaker realised just how pampering these vines contributes greatly to the wine’s quality. Their farm and wines have International organic certification as they use cows, ducks, geese and natural crops to balance the soils. They bring a natural fertilization to the soil and also fight off weeds and snails. The farm also grows fruit and vegetables such as beans, carrots, pumpkin and butternut. When visiting pop into their braai and buffet restaurant Schoongezicht which runs from the Manor House.
