Groenland meaning ‘green land’ can be found near Stellenbosch in the red wine part of Bottelary.

The Steenkamp family are renowned for their spectacular red wines and are third generation owners of this farm. They have owned the farm since 1973 with Kosie wearing the wine maker hat and his wife Heléne running events and catering facility. This is truly a family-run estate with their son Piet and his wife joining the farm in 2001 after studying agriculture.

Kosie Steenkamp has 70% of plantings to red grapes varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot and Shiraz and 30% planted to white cultivars. 152ha is under the wine with specifically 40ha Cabernet Sauvignon, 15ha Merlot, 37ha Shiraz and 18ha Pinotage, and white cultivars comprising of 4ha Chardonnay, 29ha Sauvignon blanc and 13ha Chenin blanc.

Enjoy a tasting in the Old Reservoir tasting room which was renovated in 2003 with wonderful mountain and vineyard views. There’s a picturesque garden to meander through and Heléne is known to put beautiful intimate weddings together with tasty boerekos on offer alongside Groenland wines. Regular winners of Veritas, Michelangelo and Gourmet Festival prizes include the Groenland Shiraz and Antoinette Marié.
