About Grangehurst Winery

The Walker family has owned Grangehurst since 1973 after Eddie and Betty Walker emigrated from England to Cape Town. They named the farm after Betty’s childhood home "The Grange" in Birmingham and the street where Eddie lived as a child “Hurst Close".

Winemaker Jeremy Walker has developed it into a red wine cellar to note beside the Helderberg Mountain. Wine-making started here in 1992, after Jeremy completed his wine-making studies and produced six vintages at Clos Malverne. Once the squash court was converted to a winery and grapes purchases from ‘Sunset Vineyard’, the journey began.

The cellar has a capacity of 140 tons of grapes and produces 900 cases per annum. They focus on growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Merlot which are used to make their own wines. Small amounts of dry rosé, petit Verdot and Shiraz are included in the range.
The first vintage produced was named the Champion Wine at the South African Young Wine Show.

In 2004 John Hill - our partner at Sunset Vineyard (refer "Vineyards") - joined as our business partner in the wine-making. The Grangehurst range consists of the following wines; Grangehurst, Nikela, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Pinotage, Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve, Pinotage and Cape Rosé Blend.

To view more wine estates in the region see Bottelary Hills Wine Estates or see South Africa Wine Estates for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
